Description: Men of US 2nd Division move into Thiaucourt along with their transport. The interior of the town church is badly damaged and the roof destroyed. A pan from Mount Sec, with four American soldiers in the foreground consulting a map. There is intermittent shelling in the valley below. US horse and motor transport moves through Essey, where the temporary German hospital has been taken over by Americans. The entrance, by means of a bridge, to the key fort at Camp des Romains, followed by the plains of Woevre and Saint Mihiel seen from the fort. The wreckage of the barracks at Chauvoncourt where there was an explosion in 1915. Inhabitants of Saint Mihiel, mainly women and children (described as receiving food but no sign of this). An American soldier holds up two children who wave French flags. Civilians once again cross bridges over the Meuse in the town, and the people begin to return life to normal. President and Madame Poincaré visit the town, calling at the hospital and talking to people in the streets. Three French Saint Chamond tanks move past resting US soldiers in the corner of a wood. The first is clearly named 'Lotty' but the names on the other two are less clear: one may be 'Ane Rouge' and a third. The soldiers rouse themselves and follow on. The film ends with a French inspirational poster "On Ne Passe Pas".
French newsreel of the Battle of Saint Mihiel, Western Front, September 1918.
